A domain name is the address people type to reach your site. Getting one — or moving one — is simpler than it sounds.
Registering a new domain
- Search for an available name
- Pick the right extension (.com, .net, your country code, etc.)
- Register it (usually 1–10 years) and enable auto-renew so you never lose it
Transferring a domain to a new registrar
- Unlock the domain at your current registrar
- Request the EPP / authorization code
- Start the transfer at the new registrar and pay (this usually adds a year)
- Approve the email confirmation
A few tips
- Transfers can take a few days — start early
- You cannot transfer within 60 days of registering or a previous transfer
- Keep WHOIS privacy on to reduce spam
